Safety
Safety Training Mandatory
Safety training and exam will have to be taken before being authorized to ride a bicycle on campus. The Safety training and exam are available to take on this website.
Helmet Mandatory
There is no federal law in the U.S. requiring bicycle helmets. However, bicycle helmets offer bicyclists the best protection from head injuries resulting from bicycle crashes. Students will be required to buy a helmet and to wear it at all times.
Lights Mandatory
- A person by law can not operate a bicycle at night unless the bicycle is equipped with:
- A lamp on the front of the bicycle that emits white light visible from a distance of at least 500 feet in front of bicycle.
- A red reflector on the rear that is of a type approved by the Department of Public Safety and visible when directly in front of lawful upper beams of motor vehicle headlamps from all distances from 50 to 300 feet to the rear of the bicycle.
- A lamp placed on the rear of the bicycle that emits red light and is visible from a distance of 500 to the rear of the bicycle is an acceptable substitute for a red reflector.
